Penrite Honda’s Gavin Faith is recovering from a major incident at Sunday’s second AUS-X Open event, suffering two broken vertebrae, a broken collarbone, three ribs, plus a mild concussion in Sydney.

Faith starred with his runner-up result behind Chad Reed at Allphones Arena on Saturday night, carrying that form into day two when he was also second behind series leader Dan Reardon in the opening SX1 heat.

But a scary crash over the finish line put an end to the two-time SX2 national champion’s afternoon and season, immediately attended to by the RACESAFE Medical Team on site before being transported to hospital in Westmead.

“I am really bummed about Sunday,” Faith commented. “I was feeling good and everything was on point for another good night. We will review what happened when everyone gets settled, but I am just feeling bummed right now. I hit hard and got mild concussion, broke two vertebrae, my collarbone and three ribs, but I will make a full recovery.”

The AUS-X Open was a taxing one for many of the Australian Supercross Championship regulars; the majority forced to sit out Sunday’s proceedings after a bruising opening night. Red plate holder Reardon was the lone domestic factory rider in Sunday’s SX1 main event.

Western Australian privateer Brody Cassidy was also seriously injured during Sunday’s practice/qualifying proceedings – the extent of his injuries to be confirmed. A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist in bills associated with his road to recovery. We will post an update when we have further information.
