Penrite Honda Wilson MX finish just shy of the SX2 podium

Wilson MX press release:

It was an action packed weekend for Penrite Honda Wilson MX, with the fourth installment of the 2015 Australian Supercross held at Jimboomba Stadium in Queensland on Saturday night.

With the Honda backed team back to a four-man squad on the weekend, there was plenty of hype under the Wilson MX truck prior to racing, and with a fresh new track layout, racing in the SX2 class was action packed.

With Jackson Richardson having finished on the podium at two out of three rounds so far this season, all eyes were on the Northern Queenslander when racing kicked off. However for Richardson, despite a solid heat result, he finished the main event in tenth after getting caught up with riders early on in the race.

For teammates Geran Stapleton and Luke Wilson, J2 provided the pair with impressive results. Stapleton, who competed in the ‘Best Whip’ competition earlier in the night concluded the main event one position shy of the podium in fourth, while Wilson concluded the evening in seventh position.

Jackson Richardson SX2 – 10th Overall

“It was a tough night for me, and we didn’t end up getting the result we were looking for,” he said.

“The bike was handling perfectly, and I felt that my speed was quite good in my heat race, but unfortunately in the main I got caught up in some carnage and I just didn’t have the time to make up positions.

“We’re in to back to back weekends now, so I’m just focusing on next weekend, and getting the job done in Sydney.”

Geran Stapleton SX2 – 4th Overall

“I had a lot of fun at J2! The track layout was awesome, and I’ve got to give it up to the track builders and Scotty, it was another great event,” he said.

“I did struggle a little bit with the hard surface but I’m happy to come away with a fourth for the night.

“We made some good progress this weekend, and I’m not far off the podium now. I’m headed to New Zealand on Tuesday to race again, and then it’s back for Sydney, so I’m looking forward to another big week on the bike.”

Luke Wilson SX2 – 7th Overall

“I had a great weekend. I managed to get a fourth in my heat and then seventh in the main. I had a bad start, but I definitely had the pace to run in the top five,” he said.

“It means a lot to see my results improving. I have been working hard for years now to get some good results and things are starting to come together.

“It’s going to be a big few weeks with back to back rounds, but I’m excited and just can’t wait to get to Sydney.”

Jake Williams SX2 – 17th Overall

“Aside from my riding, it was another great weekend for Wilson MX (laughs),” he said.

“I actually have a broken finger so I knew it was always going to be a tough round and that it would be hard to hold on, but the new track layout was definitely a challenge.

“I got through the night which was a plus, and as always it’s a fun event at Jimboomba. The crowd was awesome, and our bikes handled the conditions well, so now I’m just looking forward to getting to Sydney.”

The Wilson MX Team will now head to Sydney in New South Wales on November 28 for Round 5 of the Australian Supercross Series.
