He may be returning to Australia’s MX Nationals in 2016 to head up the new Wilson MX-run Factory Suzuki MX1 Race Team, however Todd Waters has not turned his back on a return to the MXGP World Championship altogether.

Waters, 24, is hoping that a strong showing locally next year will lead to a position on Team Australia at the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in a bid to secure a grand prix seat in 2017 once again.

“It was a bit of a disappointment to be coming back to Australia after quite a promising year in the MXGPs,” Waters told MotoOnline.com.au following the announcement during the weekend’s Sydney Motorcycle Show.

“We had some top five results, a podium, finished top 10 in the championship, but that’s racing. That’s how it goes sometimes – it’s a cut-throat industry. I’ll put that behind me now and I’m excited for a next change coming back here for Suzuki. Definitely, my end goal is to go over and do the des Nations, represent my country well and try to get myself back over there.”

Waters finished ninth in the 2015 MXGP World Championship standings as part of the official Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing team, claiming a breakthrough podium at Maggiora, Italy, round nine.
