Husqvarna enduro racers become Aussie teammates

Kearney and Stanford set for Team Australia ISDE appearance.

HQVA press release:

Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team mates Glenn Kearney and Lachy Stanford are relishing the prospect of going into battle as Australian team mates when this year’s International Six-Day Enduro kicks off later today in Kosice, Slovakia.

The duo will compete as members of the six-man Australian senior team in the 90th running of the ISDE – considered the Olympics of enduro racing.

The event will attract over 350 riders from 35 countries to Slovakia’s second largest city, to take on the 1225 kilometres of competitive and transport stages.

One of the most respected hard chargers in Australian enduro racing, multiple Aussie champ Glenn Kearney will be competing in his 10th ISDE, having answered the call to fill in for Josh Strang, who was unable to attend the event.

While Kearney spent the season aboard Husqvarna’s mighty FE 501, he will take over Strang’s Husqvarna FC450 for the race, and make up part of a formidable Australian team which includes – apart from himself and Stanford – Beau Ralston, World Enduro Champion Matt Phillips, Daniel Milner and Josh Green.

A member of last year’s third placed Australian junior trophy team, Stanford has this year graduated to the senior World Trophy Team squad for the first time.

Though he raced the nimble Husqvarna FE 350 in domestic AORC competition, Stanford will ride the ISDE on Husqvarna’s FE 501, a machine that responds well to Stanford’s smooth flowing style.
The ISDE takes place at Kosice, Slovakia from September 7-12.

Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team Manager Glenn Kearney (FE501): “I’m happy to be representing Australia again even though it’s as a fill in. This is my 10th ISDE so I hope I can help the guys and in particular Lachy during the event. It’s a hard slog, but it’s always a good time with the boys. These days the Aussies always have a great shot at the win and I think this year will be no different. A few of our best won’t be here, but we are still right in it, which shows the depth of talent in Australia right now. I am almost caught up on walking tests after my late start, so I am looking for a big result. Kosice is a nice place. The tests are awesome and the Aussie vibe is a good one. I’ll be riding Josh Strang’s FC450, so a bit different than my usual FE 501. It’s a nice looking Husqvarna and I’m sure I’ll adapt to it well over the six days.”

Lachy Stanford (FE350): “To ride for the Australian team is a big deal for me this year because I have been selected to ride in the senior Trophy Team. This will be my first year in the big boy class and I am really keen to do well. We have a really strong team this year and I think we will have a really good chance to get the win. The Aussie team is strong in all conditions so whatever the track turns out to be we will be okay. I’m riding the Husqvarna FE 501 this year; I really gel well on the 501 and it’s such a solid bike. Cannot wait to get out there and start racing – tracks look really good. Go Aussies!”
