Pirelli teams successful as MX Nationals season concludes.
Pirelli Moto press release:
Pirelli supported Jay Wilson, has wrapped up his 2015 MX Nationals campaign the new Motul MX2 Champion, after yet another outstanding hit out in Coolum over the weekend.
Wilson raced to 1-1 results at the deep sandy circuit, doing more than enough to wrap up the 2015 MX2 title, with the support of Pirelli Tyres in his corner. Wilson overcame a number of obstacles throughout the 2015 season, including his brother being involved in a devastating crash at round one, to emerge on Sunday afternoon this year’s champion.
Jay Wilson: “With the conditions on the weekend being really uncertain with all of the rain on Saturday night, tyre choice was very important, and having Pirelli in my corner made my job a lot easier,” he said. “With limited support for the 2015 Motocross season, having companies like Pirelli backing me 100 per cent made this championship much more achievable. “I can’t thank Don, and the team at Link International and Pirelli enough for their support this year, and I’m so glad I could reward them with the 2015 MX2 Championship.”
A further highlight of the MX2 season was the 1-2 result for Pirelli in the MX2 class, with Serco Yamaha’s Luke Clout finishing the motocross season in second overall, after winning the title in 2014.
Pirelli’s success did not stop with Wilson and Clout, with both MX1 Moto wins and an overall round win in the MX1 Class, plus further positions on the MX1, and MXD championship podiums as well.
In the MX1 class Penrite Honda Racing Team’s Ben Townley raced to an impressive round overall – taking the win in moto one, and second place in moto two, handing the team and Pirelli top spot on the podium at the conclusion of the weekend. Ben chose to use Scorpion MX32 90/100-21 front and 110/90-19 Scorpion MX Soft 410 rear.
Ben Townley: “I chose to use Pirelli when I first came to Australia in 2012, in fact the truth is I demanded the team use them if they wanted to win,” he said. “They have a predictable and wide variety choice of tyres. They won both motos on the weekend and have had great success with Justin Barcia in America and have just won the World MX Championship with Yamaha’s rookie sensation Romain Febvre. They are obviously producing winning tyres.”
NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Monea also found success at the Coolum Pines Motocross Track, taking the Moto 2 race win in the final moto of the day, putting himself in third place in the MX1 Championship standings, narrowly edging out Luke Styke on a countback.
These results saw Pirelli riders take all moto wins at Coolum in the MX1 and MX2 class.
Troy Carrol: “What a year! As a team we are absolutely thrilled to have had Adam on the MX1 podium and to reward our sponsors and Pirelli with a result like that is great,” he said. “As a team, we pride ourselves in providing our athletes with the best equipment and products possible. Pirelli Tyre’s are without a doubt the best on the market, and their results have shown that here in Australia, but also across the globe. “I can’t thank Don Nicholas and the team at Link International enough for this year. Their support of the NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki Race team contributed greatly to Adam’s championship podium.”
In the Pirelli MXD Class, privateer KTM rider Jayden Rykers put on an outstanding performance at round ten, in a last ditch effort to make it to the top step of the MXD podium. Despite Ryker’s late charge, the youngster settled for second overall for 2015, placing Pirelli Tyres with yet another podium for 2015.
Don Nicholas – Pirelli product Manager – Link International: “The final Coolum round saw some impressive results for Pirelli riders using Scorpions MX. We congratulate Ben and Jay on the round wins in MX1 and MX2, and also congratulate Jay and the JCR Team on the MX2 title for 2015,” he said. “We look forward to supporting Jay at the upcoming MXoN with Pirelli tyres. “We thank all of the Pirelli riders and our Factory Team partners for their efforts in 2015, and look forward to the upcoming SX championship.”
