Mastin and Makeham in top 10 mix at Echo Valley.
Team Motul Suzuki press release:
Team Motul Suzuki’s line up of 21 year old Kale Makeham and 17 year old Egan Mastin put in a solid day of racing at the ninth round of the 2015 MX Nationals held at Toowoomba on Sunday the 25th of August.
On a perfectly prepared and technical track, Mastin in just his first ride aboard the Team Motul Suzuki RM-Z450 and his first ever national race in the MX1 class, proved he has the potential to be a front runner in the premier class of racing in Australia when he shot out of the gates in the opening moto at the Echo Valley circuit.
Holding a top six position for the majority of the race, while also keeping the MX1 championship leader in his sights, Mastin was on track for an outstanding opening to his professional career until a small crash late in the race relegated him back a handful of spots.
Recovering quickly Mastin was still able to hold down a very respectable 9th place finish, before backing up that result with another top ten finish in race two, giving the youngster an impressive 9th place overall result for the round.
“I got off to a good start in the first race and was running inside the top six and was able to hold that position for the majority of the race and everything was feeling good.” Mastin explained. “Unfortunately I had a crash just after the half way point of the race that put me back a couple of positions. Other than the little crash I was very happy with the first moto.”
“The team was awesome to work with all day, they are a great team and were great to work with at Toowoomba. The bike was great as well, I am still getting used to the bike a little, but overall the weekend was very positive.” Mastin added.
Kale Makeham did not have exactly the day he was chasing at Toowoomba, though was still able to put in a top ten moto result in the opening race for the day, before finishing 11th in the second 30 minute plus one lap moto to round out the day in 11th overall.
“My day was not to bad I guess, not to high not to low.” Makeham commented. “I had some good pace in the first moto but made a few mistakes, apart from that it was pretty uneventful. “The track out there on Sunday was unreal, it was a proper motocross track.
“They prepped it and watered it and had it just perfect. I had a good time riding the track, hats off to the club because tracks like that are hard to come by.” Makeham concluded.
Team Motul Suzuki will now head to the 10th and final round of the 2015 MX Nationals where the series will come to a conclusion at Coolum on Sunday the 30th of August.
