Monea and Long shine in tough Toowoomba terrain.
Kawasaki Motors Australia press release:
The NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team was on pace at round 9 of the MX Nationals in Toowoomba over the weekend with 1st and 2ndposition in Superpole and a 2nd place overall for Adam Monea on his Kawasaki KX450F.
Adam Monea set his speed early in the day with the second fastest Superpole lap, behind teammate Dylan Long. “It’s good to get some points from Superpole because we need them today. I was hoping for first but Dylan put in a flyer of a lap. Let’s keep the ball rolling,” Adam commented after his Superpole result.
Adam tucked away 4th in the first moto and after taking an extensive lead in the second moto, an unfortunate mishap saw him drop down to finish the race in 2nd, nearly 14 seconds behind the race winner.
“My riding wasn’t to bad today, it was one of my more consistent rounds. Another trip to the podium overall which is great but to be leading that last moto and to make an error with a lap and a half to go is a little disheartening, but it gives me something to look forward to. A little bit of motivation never hurt but a win is even better.
I’ve got to give it up to the team and everyone who is involved. They put in a massive effort. We’ll move on to round ten and I think well get on to that top step and really have a celebration!” Adam commented. Heading into the final round, Adam Monea is now a mere 15 championship points away from second place and only 76 points away from the top spot on the overall series leaderboard.
Dylan Long entered the penultimate 2015 MX Nationals round on a winning streak after becoming the 2015 Victorian Senior MX Champion the week before and winning his first ever 450cc MX Nationals race in the last round at Nowra. Dylan carried over his winning prowess into qualifying with the fastest Superpole lap saying, “The track was pretty good. My KX450F was handling awesome and it felt really good out there. This is my second Superpole that I’ve ever been in and I’m stoked to have come away in first place.”
7th place in the first moto was a strong result for Dylan following his recovery from a bad start. After hanging in with the lead riders in the second race, Dylan fell victim to the Toowoomba circuit, dropping his KX450F and salvaging a 6th place finish. Dylan took 7th position overall for the round.
“I’m feeling alright. A little sore on the right side after that tip over in the second moto but there were a fair few positives taken out of today you know. First in the Superpole and in that second race I caught Ben Townley and passed him. He’s a fast rider and I’ve been looking up to him for a long time. I think I got a little nervous up the front. I ended up dropping back two positions and then I was coming back strong again and ended up tipping it over but overall pretty happy with today,“ Dylan commented.
Team Manager, Troy Carroll, said “It wasn’t bad, we started off really well in Superpole and in the first race we didn’t have the best starts but coming into the second race we were leading 1 – 2 for a while. Both the boys took out a lot from today and it was one of favourite tracks in the series for a lot of the riders so there has been plenty of excitement around today. One round to go next week and I believe we will get some solid overall results for the series.”
