Dunlop-backed Lawson Bopping collected his first MX1 overall win for 2015, at one of the toughest tracks on the MX Nationals calendar in Coolum over the weekend.

At the notoriously tough venue, Bopping as well as KTM’s Kirk Gibbs handled the demanding track conditions in spectacular fashion, recording top race results and rewarding Dunlop with 1-2 podium positions. DPH Motorsport’s Bopping secured the win in GoPro SuperPole before going on to claim to two second places, earning him the required amount of points to take the round overall.

Lawson Bopping – “I ran the MX32 font and MX11 rear all weekend which hooked up all day and gave me a big holeshot.” Gibbs, who claimed fourth in moto one after being caught up in a first turn crash, went on to collect the race win in moto two and was rewarded accordingly for his efforts, with second step on the MX1 podium at the conclusion of the round.

Kirk Gibbs – “With a mid-soft front and paddle rear my bike hooked up great all day.” The success in the MX1 class for Dunlop also flowed over into the top five in overall standings for the round. CDR Yamaha’s Kade Mosig fought back after a first turn pile up to claim seventh in moto one and third in moto two, leaving him in fourth overall for the round. While KTM’s Luke Styke posted a third in moto one and seventh in moto two putting him in fifth for the round. In the MX2 Class Sunshine Coast local and Dunlop backed Caleb Ward (KTM Racing Team) continued his dominating form. After collecting the win in the first moto, Ward went on to claim second in race two, awarding him with his second round win for 2015.

Caleb Ward – “I ran the mx32 on the front an mx11 on the rear all day which worked perfectly. The track was a bit softer than usual so the mx11 was the best tyre to be running and hooked up for me all day and helped me get the win.” To top off yet another successful weekend for Dunlop, DPH Motorsport rider Cheyne Boyd also wrapped up another 30 Plus Veterans Championship after posting 1-1 results at Coolum.

Dunlop’s National Motorcycle Manager Sabastian Mincone spoke of the athlete’s succes after the event. “This was another fantastic weekend for Dunlop,” he said. “Congratulations to Lawson and Kirk on their results. Riders on Dunlop have now won every round of the MX1 class in the MX Nationals. “This proves the versatility of our Geomax range at this high level of competition. Also my congratulations to Cheyne Boyd for his win in the Vets class.”
