MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA:

The points are in and with only one race remaining in each of the 16 classes competing at the 2009 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship, Saturday 3 October looks set to be massive!

In less than 24 hours, 16 new Australian Junior Motocross Champions will be crowned and there are already some epic on-track battles shaping up.

In the 250cc 15 years class, New South Welshman Shaun Redhead looks set to challenge Kyle Peters, and is trailing the American by only six points, while also riding out to a strong lead in the 100cc to 150cc 15 years class.

In the 250cc 13 to under 15 years class a massive effort from both Jacob Wright and Dion Brilanti is needed to stave off the American assault from Joey Savatgy who leads by eight points.

Savatgy is also facing a strong Aussie challenge in the 125cc 13 to under 15 years class in the form of Benalla rider, Dylan Long, who is tied on points with only one race to go.

Long is currently leading the 85cc 14 to under 16 years class, however he faces some stiff competition from New South Wales’ Luke Clout and current World Champion Jay Wilson who are all within seven points of the lead.

Clout has an easier than expected day ahead of him on Saturday, having already accumulated an unassailable points lead in the 150cc 14 to under 16 years class he is also competing in.

In the female 250cc class, Meghan Rutledge looks almost certain to retain her number one status; however after feeling ill during the days racing, anything could happen.

Meanwhile Kiwi sensation, Courtney Duncan, continues to amaze, with an unassailable points lead in the 85cc to 150cc female class, ahead of West Australian rider Jessica Moore, and only eight points behind Ballarat’s Joel Milesevic in the 85cc 12 to under 14 years class.

Queensland’s Wilson Todd is leading both his classes, while Wayde Carter has a strong lead in the 100cc to 150cc nine to under 12 class.

Nicklas Scott from Queensland and Kurt Waterman, who hails from South Australia, will be battling it out on the track in the 100cc to 150cc 12 to under 14 years class, and it will be a clash of the Victorian riders in the 65cc seven to under nine years class, with Callum Norton and Taj Marshall now tied on points and in the lead.

New South Welshman, Elias Dukes, is putting in a strong effort in the 65cc 11 to under 13’s, leading the class with only a day of racing remaining, while fellow New South Welshman Rhys Budd leads the 50cc Division two class.

As the on-track battles heat up, spectators are invited to attend and check out all the action and best of all, entry is completely free!
