Oz MX: Drop bears won't rain on Kyle's Junior Nationals parade

MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA:

With qualifying entering its final stages and finals races heating up, American import Kyle Peters is having the time of his life at the 2009 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship out at the Maffra Sale Motorcycle Club.

Peters, who hails from North Carolina in the USA, said he was having a great time so far, despite falling for a classic Aussie prank.

“Like every American I fell for the drop bear thing!”  Peters said.

“We were running around all day looking up at the trees, the guys got us with that one but I’m having so much fun out here.”

With no time to try out his two racing bikes, Monday’s practice session was the first time for Peters to really test out his machines.

“It’s been a bit tricky getting used to everything but I think it’s coming together now,” he said.

The 16 year old is competing in both the 125cc and 250cc two classes at the event with mixed results over the last few days.

In the 125cc class, Peters managed fourth place in the first final, however the second didn’t go to plan, with a Did Not Finish (DNF) pushing him back in the points chase, he did, however, have more luck on the bigger bike, winning both his heats comfortably.

Close competition is expected from Tasmanian rider Matthew Phillips, who after competing at the 2009 FIM World Junior Motocross Championships in New Zealand recently, is yet to push Peters in the 250cc class.

Spectators are welcome to attend and check out all the action and best of all, entry is completely free!
