DPH Motorsport Yamaha Racing with the support of Peter Stevens have concluded round one of the MX Nationals in Horsham, proving they have what it takes to be championship contenders in 2015. Arriving in their brand new DPH branded semi trailer, both MX1 athletes Lawson Bopping, and fill in rider Cheyne Boyd had successful outings at Horsham – showing glimpses of what is to come in 2015.

For Bopping, the series opener provided the chance to get the feel for his new Yamaha machine, and take home some outstanding results in the process.While Boyd made his return from retirement, and showed MX Nationals fans that he’s still got what it takes to run top ten in a stacked MX1 field.

Lawson Bopping MX1 – Fourth Overall – (4th, 4th)

“Round one I am really happy with. I managed to put some really good points on the board and start the series off on the right foot.” “Qualifying obviously went really well. I put down the fastest lap time and then managed to get third in SuperPole, which was a good start to the day.

“In moto one, I was sitting in about third position and Kade Mosig just got me at the end there, but I was really happy with fourth in that race. In the second race I again had some good battles with Kade and came away with another fourth, so it was good to stay consistent and inside that top five.

“My goal heading into round one was just to stay in that top five. I have only rode Horsham a handful of times, but the weekend was definitely the best result that I’ve had there. “I’ve made a couple of little changes to the bike, and I’ve had some good results at Appin in the past, so I’m looking forward to getting to round two now, and aiming for a podium there.”

Cheyne Boyd MX1 – Ninth Overall – (13th, 9th)

“I think I went pretty well on the weekend considering I haven’t done any racing like that in a few years,” he said. “I have obviously been pretty busy with the ride park, and sometimes I work 16 or 17 hour days – there are certain things that I know I can’t do as far as recovery and extra training, so its sort of a different schedule to what I am used to racing at this level.

“Race two for the day was great. I made passes and went forward at the start and got myself into some kind of rhythm, riding the race like I planned. I didn’t really fade either which is definitely positive. The biggest thing I felt was I hadn’t ridden a track like that in a lot of years so that’s the old man coming out of me.

“The plan is to do rounds one, three, five and ten this year. I have to stick to this plan, especially with school holidays where we are busy at the ride park. “It has been great to have the support of DPH Motorsports for these selected rounds, and I’m really looking forward to getting back to the track at round three.”

Dale Hocking – Team Manager

“Obviously we were very happy with Lawson qualifying first and then getting third in the Superpole. Then with the two fourths in his races he collected some great points to put towards his championship. “I’ve got to say, I’m happy with Cheyne too. We weren’t anticipating too much, but a top ten finish for the day was great with him filling in for Ross at the moment.

“Having the new semi set up was a big call, which took a good 40 odd days to build. We are really happy and once it’s all finished it will be a lot more professional. We should give the factory boys a good run for their money this year. “At this stage the next round for Cheyne will be Broadford, and Ross is hoping to be back by round four, so we’re just looking forward to supporting Lawson at round two now.”

The DPH Motorsport Yamaha Racing Team will head to Appin on April 12 for Round 2 of the MX Nationals.
