World MX: Record 36 nations set for Motocross of Nations

YOUTHSTREAM:

A record breaking entry list of 36 Teams ready to battle for the Chamberlain Trophy is the first preview of a fantastic Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations, set to happen in Franciacorta, Italy, on the October 4 weekend.

This year’s Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations will see the participation of 36 Teams for a total of 108 riders, something that never happened in the previous 62 editions of the most important off road event in the world.

The presence of the top 10 teams in the 2008 edition’s standings is confirmed as Team USA will try to keep up their winning streak. On the other hand home Team Italy, including recently crowned MX1 World Champion Tony Cairoli,  will try and take the Chamberlain Trophy back to the country hosting the event again after an absence of 23 years.

With the most successful Motocross and Supercross riders on the planet being spread within the 36 squads, this is going to be an extremely hard fought Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations as none of the teams looks the absolute favourite.

Among World Champions such as Ramon (Belgium), Cairoli and Philippaerts (Italy), Reed (Australia), Rattray (South Africa), there will be also young guns such as Dungey and Weimer (USA), Musquin and Paulin (France), Roelants and Desalle (Belgium), Tonus (Switzerland), Karro (Latvia). Two of the youngest riders will be 15 year old sensations Roczen (Germany) and Herlings (Netherlands) – the latter will turn 15 on September 12.

With so many Nations entering the event, crowds of fans from all over the world have already hit the road to reach the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations’ venue in early October and experience an unforgettable event, as well as the Off Road Awards to be held on the Saturday.

Giuseppe Luongo, the President of Youthstream, stated: “This is absolutely fantastic! Despite some who took the occasion of the world economical crisis to talk negatively about Motocross’ development and despite some countries using the same excuse to not come to the biggest Motocross event in the world, Motocross runs very well and continues to grow.  Every year it gets bigger and bigger, fans like following us, media continue covering our sport even more than ever, international sponsors keep supporting us. We believe the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations 2009 will be a simply outstanding event; the pre-selling is going great and the VIP has already sold out. There are many countries with the possibility of taking the victory, the show will be unbelievable.

“For this event we are offering fans great opportunities; there will be three hours of worldwide live television with all Youthstream’s television partners, 24 hours of live coverage on Freecaster.tv showing the races, interviews, behind the scene curiosity, historical MXoN images and more.  For those wanting to be a part of this historical weekend of Motocross we have prepared a tremendous theater setting with a spectacular Motocross track and 100% visibility for the public. Camping areas are only 50 meters away from the venue, all the parking areas are on hard standing guaranteeing the total comfort for the guests and fans also in case of bad weather. There are more than 20 different restaurants/panini places on-site and live music, freestyle, and many other various activities will keep everyone entertained throughout the entire weekend.”

FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb continued: “I am simply stunned. What more can I say? 36 Nations have entered, from all continents in the world. The highest number of entries in history. This will be the biggest and greatest Motocross event of all times. The fans have named this event already since years “Olympics of Motocross”, and they are right.
“Let me thank all the Federations that send their best riders to Franciacorta. Let me thank the riders, who take great pride and honour in representing their country and their colours. Let me invite the Motocross fans from all over the world to come and watch the race. We are looking forward to celebrate the greatest weekend of the sport we all love so much.”
