Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke will enter next month’s Terex Australian Supercross Championship final at Toowoomba just five points in arrears of red plate holder Gavin Faith.
Faith took the championship lead at Phillip Island on Sunday, capitalising on a shoulder injury that Styke suffered in his heat race on Saturday.
Despite the pain, Styke battled to second on Saturday and then fourth on Sunday, in what he classified as the worst weekend of the 2013 season.
“The weekend was probably my worst for the year,” Styke said. “I felt pretty good going in, but I jarred my shoulder heavily in the whoops on Saturday and I just didn’t have the strength required to race my bike properly.
“We have a four-week break before the final round and my plan is to be back to 100 percent and fit fight this championship in Toowoomba. It’s not over yet.”
The championship will now go down to the wire on 16 November at Toowoomba in Queensland, the sixth and final round of the 2013 title chase.
