Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe wrapped up his successful Canadian Motocross Championship campaign with a solid fourth place finish at Walton, Ontario, on Sunday.
The Australian rider had already sewn up the MX1 class title a round prior, building an unbeatable points buffer on the back of five overall round wins.
Metcalfe, whose Kawasaki proudly brandished the new number one plate during practice, finished the opening moto in second place before cruising to fifth to round out the day.
The MX1 class round win went to KTM’s Cole Thompson, while Yamaha rider Shawn Maffenbeier wrapped up the MX2 overall.
Metcalfe’s Leading Edge Kawasaki stablemate Austin Politelli won the opening MX2 moto to secure the class title and a double win for the team.
Metcalfe’s fourth-place finish, a mere formality for the Aussie, ranks as his only non-podium result from the nine rounds contested.
He will be back in action at the AMA Pro Motocross finale at Lake Elsinore where his current form sees him capable of battling within the top five.
2013 marked the first time in 11 years that the Aussie rider has not contested the American series, with injuries affecting his preparations and a lack of available seats leading him to pursue the Canadian title.
