YAMAHA RACING TEAM:

Yamaha’s factory road racers have come away from Eastern Creek Raceway with two from three dominant class wins following another competitive outing this weekend.

Round 4 of the Australian Superbike Championships (ASBK) at the iconic Sydney circuit saw momentum continued in the Supersport and Superstock 1000 classes, even with a lengthy two-month hiatus since Queensland Raceway.

Jamie Stauffer collected another Supersport round victory, narrowly edging out points leader and teammate Bryan Staring by a margin of just 1 point.

Pat Medcalf maintained his winning ways in the Superstock 1000 class, riding his R1 to a round victory and keeping a perfect record running.

YRT Superbike riders Jamie and Daniel Stauffer put in encouraging performances, but were ultimately unable to match the success they had enjoyed previously at the 3.92km track.

Yamaha Racing Team Superbike

Yamaha Racing Team Superbike duo Jamie and Daniel Stauffer recorded another strong run of results at this weekend’s Eastern Creek Raceway event.

Round four on the 2009 ASBK calendar saw the factory team make further progress with the development of the R1 racebikes, with hopes high after a pre-event test.

Both riders showed solid practice form, which they carried into Saturday’s sessions. Placing within the top 8 after qualifying, the Stauffers secured themselves a spot in the Superpole shootout, where the true potential of the bikes over a single lap really showed.

Daniel took second, with Jamie less than six-hundredths of a second behind in third.

The #3 Yamaha R1 got away to a good start in today’s first race. Daniel battled with Glen Allerton for the first half of the 13-lap showdown before tyre wear saw him fade from as high as second to finish in eighth.

Jamie held a consistent position throughout, fighting strongly in fifth before slipping to sixth as the race came to a close.

Race two saw a similar outcome unfold. Both riders got off to a solid start but were left searching for grip in the closing stages.

“We qualified well in the Superpole format, the pace was hot and the R1 was awesome over a single lap,” said Daniel.

“I stayed with Glenn (Allerton) and Josh (Waters) for the first 8 laps of the opening race, the bike was working well and we were looking strong for a top 3 finish.

“The warmer temperatures really hurt the tyres in the end and I struggled in the last few laps, losing a few positions on the way.

“It was a promising weekend, we could have come away with a few more points but are really encouraged by how much progress we are making.

“Everyone on the team is working hard to get these results and I’m confident that the best is yet to come.”

In addition to his Superbike duties, Jamie added another Supersport round win to his tally, edging out fellow factory Yamaha R6 rider Bryan Staring by a single point awarded for pole.

Stauffer took the win in race 1 and a close second place in race 2. He sits second in the standings on 167 points.

Yamaha Racing Team Supersport/Superstock 1000

The Yamaha Racing Team’s Bryan Staring maintained his lead at the top of the Supersport championship standings with a solid second place at Eastern Creek Raceway today.

For the second round in a row, Staring recorded the same points in races 1 and 2 as round winner Jamie Stauffer, but was edged out by the bonus point for pole.

Locked in battle over the course of both races, Staring and Stauffer traded positions on a number of occasions, with the R6 racebike once again showing it would be the one to beat in this year’s title fight.

Staring identified qualifying as the key area in which he needed to improve.

“Jamie is particularly strong in qualifying, he’s picking up bonus points here and there and its hurting me in terms of the overall round results,” said Staring.

“I did the best job I could this weekend and was pretty happy with how it all panned out.

“I stayed with Jamie for the duration of race 1 and it was only by a small margin that he took the win.

“I knew I would need to turn the result around in race 2 and gave it my all. It was a satisfying result and good to know I only lost 1 point in outright terms.”

After round 4, Staring leads the championship on 185 points, 18 clear of Stauffer on 167.

Pat Medcalf won two of three races in the Superstock 1000 class, increasing the margin over his closest championship rival to 48 points.

The R1-mounted racer leads the way on 223 points.
