Victorian track receives major overhaul including new 300 metre section.
The Broadford State Motorcycle Complex Motocross track has undergone a complete overhaul in readiness for this week’s fourth round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals on Sunday, 19 May.
Tonnes of soil have been delivered, dumped and shaped to build a pristine playing field for the event, with particular focus placed on adding a new top section of track.
Not used since the last World Motocross Grand Prix in 2000, the addition will see extra turns, berms and whoops throughout approximately 300 metres of new track.
Additional investment has resulted in improved irrigation system control which will reduce the amount of time taken to water the track, and minimise waste.
“Developing a track of this standard is geared around future-proofing the facility,” said complex manager Justin Bromley.
“Not only will this allow us to host events such as the MX Nationals, but offer and industry-leading facility for our current MV-affiliated clubs and users.
“The redevelopment of the motocross track will keep us headed in the right direction to offer industry-leading facilities across the entire State Motorcycle Sports Complex.”
As part of the redevelopment, a new mechanics area has been situated at the top of turn three, and additional food and beverage outlets have been moved closer for easier public access.
Motorcycling Victoria (MV) chief executive Andrew Weiss was impressed by the results of the Motocross track redevelopment.
“The motocross track is in the best condition it has ever been,” said Weiss. “A lot of hard work has gone into bring the track up to a world-class standard.
“It will be great to showcase the revamped surface at the MX Nationals on the weekend, and we will be working hard to maintain the quality and integrity of the facility all year round.”
MV will also hold a Minikhana Come ‘n’ Try session for budding riders to try out fun bikes from Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. Riders must be under 12 years of age and bring their own gear to be able to participate.
