WOODSTOCK HONDA:
The Woodstock Honda Thor Racing team are gearing up for the eighth and final round of the Australian Motocross Championship at Coolum, Queensland this weekend (August 1-2).
Pro Open rider Peter Boyle heads to Coolum with confidence after a strong finish at the previous round in Lakes, New South Wales. Boyle battled hard with Pro Open frontrunners Cheyne Boyd, Jay Marmont and Craig Anderson to finish 4th in the second moto.
“Fourth place was my best moto finish so far this year”, said Boyle. “Coolum is one of the best tracks on the championship circuit and I love racing there, so I’m pretty confident I can continue my good form into this weekend.”
Fellow Pro Open rider Brant Landman is also looking forward to racing at the Coolum track, and making amends for what he describes as a disappointing weekend at Lakes.
“For me, Lakes was a weekend of missed opportunities,” admitted Landman. “Compared to Lakes, the track at Coolum features a much sandier surface and more racing room and these types of rougher, sandier tracks seem to suit me more.
“I’m going to give this last round everything I’ve got, and I want to end the championship with a top five result.”
Rebecca Lipsett is also competing for the Woodstock Honda team, while two experienced racers are making a one off appearance for the team at the Veteran’s Championship race.
Former Australian Motocross Champion Glen Bell returns, alongside “Jumpin'” Jimmy Ellis, a former American motocross champion.
Based in Northern New South Wales, Dean Ferris is excited to race at what he describes as his “home” track.
The young rider impressed at Lakes, with a season-best 4th place finish in the second Pro Lites moto, claiming 9th place overall for the round.
Ferris battled injury soreness towards the end of the weekend, but shorter races at Coolum should work in his favour.
Team Manager- Brad McAlpine
“As a team we were a little disappointed with our results at Lakes, but there were also a lot of positives that we took out of the weekend. We have regrouped and head to a track that probably suits our riders better.
“Brent Landman seems to excel on the sandy, loamy type surfaces so I’m hoping for positive things from him; a top five certainly isn’t out of reach.”
“Peter really impressed with his 4th place finish… it’s tough at that level but Pete did a great job and if he can do half as good at Coolum I’ll be happy.
“Ideally we’d like to finish off this year’s championship with both our Pro Open riders in the top eight, and I’m hoping that Dean can claim a podium.”
The eighth and final round of the Australian Motocross Championship will be held at Coolum Pines Motocross Park, Quanda Road, Coolum on Saturday August 1st and Sunday August 2nd.
