It was Taka Higashino who grabbed the gold medal over Adelberg in the Moto X Freestyle final, the Japanese rider edged out the Aussie and X Games rookie Wes Agee of Temecula, California.
Australia’s Jackson Strong kicked off his Foz do Iguaçu campaign with a corked front flip, the trick that won him Best Trick gold in 2011, and Sunday was the first time the trick ever had been seen in Moto X Freestyle competition at X Games.
But shortly after Strong crashed under-rotating a cliffhanger backflip. He was carried out on a backboard but managed to wave to his fans on the way out. X Games medical staff confirmed that he was conscious, moving and alert.
Strong was transported to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken tibia in his right leg – Strong later posted the following message on his Facebook page.
“Hey everyone, I’m okay. I’ve just got a little broken bone in my ankle and I’m beat up but otherwise I’m all good. Thanks for all of the support!”
Moto X Speed and Style saw a battle between Lance Coury and Andre Villa go down for the gold medal. In the end it was Coury who scored the win, using a score of 97.853 to earn himself X Games gold.
Villa took home the silver while Mat Rebaud came home with the bronze after edging out Libor Podmol in the bronze medal match up.
Moto X Best Whip saw Jeremy ‘Twitch’ Stenberg come out on top in the fan voted competition. Stenberg took the win with a 45 percent vote aboard his Suzuki.
Taking the runner-up spot was veteran Edgar Torronteras with a 30 percent vote and rounding out the top three was Josh Hansen aboard his Suzuki with a 17 percent vote.
In the Moto X Step Up event it was X Games rookie Bryce Hudson who stole the show. Hudson earned himself his first-ever X Games gold medal with a 31 foot leap above the Brazilian soil.
Taking home the silver was multi-time step up champion Ronnie Renner while Libor Podmol followed him in third, scoring his maiden X Games medal in the event.
KTM-mounted Enduro X contender Taddy Blazusiak came out on top in the grueling event. With a time of 12:45:160, Blazusiak was able to claim the gold medal ahead of stiff competition. Earning the silver medal was Cody Webb while David Knight rounded out the top three with the bronze.
