Making its long-awaited debut at last weekend’s Monster Energy MX Nationals season opener, the all-new innovative Oakley Airbrake MX goggle proved to be a hit amongst team riders and within the industry.
With years of research and development built into the Airbrake MX goggle, Oakley promised they would be completely changing the goggle game in more ways than one.
Oakley held their official Airbrake MX media launch at Raymond Terrace last weekend where the details and endless features of the goggle were explained in detail underneath the CDR Yamaha awning between the first and second motos.
Aside from the array of features including a Motocross’ first injection-molded Plutonite lens, the Airbrake offers up the all-new Switchlock Technology which completely changes the way you can service and customise the goggle.
For years Monza Imports’ Mick Sinclair has maintained and prepared Oakley goggles for Australia’s elite riders, and the introduction of the Airbrake MX has so far proved a breath of fresh air for him.
“It’s been refreshing, as you can imagine building goggles can kind of get stale after a little while,” said Sinclair. “So it’s very refreshing to do these, it’s a pleasure again to do them.
“As you would have seen at the launch, the lens takes maybe 15 seconds to change max. When I do them of an evening it’s changed the amount of time it takes by probably three quarters. So yeah, it’s made it fun again.”
And in servicing some of the country’s top established and rising talent, Sinclair has been proud to roll out the new product to the team of Oakley riders.
“It was pretty hard earlier on because we didn’t have that many of the Airbrake MX in the country, but they all wanted to get their hands on them,” he explained.
“I could give each guy one pair to go and test, then they would want more and this and that, but we couldn’t do it. Now we’ve got full supply in stock and the guys love it.”
Due to the Airbrake MX goggle being such a new product in the Australian marketplace, team riders such as Jay Marmont, Lawson Bopping and Kale Makeham tried out the goggle accessories for the first time in race conditions with great results.
“None of them had tried tear offs on the goggles before today, because we only got them on Friday,” Sinclair added. “So the guys went out in qualifying and everyone was pumped, they’re stoked, all the boys are super excited about it.
“We’ve had pretty good results today, we’ve had guys on the podium in every class with Airbrakes around their neck, so it’s been a pretty successful day for us.”
Thanks to Oakley Australia, MotoOnline.com.au received our very own Airbrake MX goggles to put to the test. Initial impressions of the unit are impressive so be sure to stay tuned for that review.
The Oakley Airbrake MX is now available for purchase in Australia at a recommended retail price of $179.95. Check out Oakley’s six-video series below on the goggle to coincide with this week’s Australian release.
