This weekend’s seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Sandown in Victoria will likely see the introduction of Superbikes to the series during a demonstration session.
It’s expected that current Australian Superbike Champion Glenn Allerton will lead the demo on his Motologic Racing Honda CBR1000RR at the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge, also taking part in a V8 Supercar two-seater ride over the weekend.
Superbikes are all but confirmed to be competing at the L&H 500 at Phillip Island in September, with the demo laps at Sandown coming as a brief preview for the upcoming two-plus-four event.
It’s believed that the Phillip Island round will be a non-championship round for the ASBK series, with the premier Superbike category taking part as a support race before its status is raised to a championship round in 2010 if it’s a success.
