MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA:

The 2009 Australian Motocross Championship kicks into top gear this weekend as the penultimate round of the Series heads to Lakes, New South Wales.

With only a handful of races left, riders, such as local hero and 12-time Australian Champion, Craig Anderson (Kawasaki), will be riding hard to gain valuable Championship points and stop the Yamaha freight train of Series leaders Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd.

“My aim for the last two rounds is to be competitive and in the top three,” Anderson said. “We’ve done some more testing with the bike and I think we should see some good results from now on. Lakes is the track where I grew up racing so I know it quite well, we had a practice day out there with Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd and I felt pretty good riding against those guys.”
With a return to the traditional format for the seventh round, Anderson has been impressed with the depth of talent that he has seen this year.

“This year both the Pro Opens and Pro Lites have had the most depth of talent that I’ve seen in the five years that I’ve been back from the U.S,” he said.  “The riders have been really strong and the racing has been close all year and every round has been better than in previous years so fans are going to see some really close racing this weekend!”

The seventh round of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship will be held at Lake Macquarie Motorcycle Club on Sunday 26 July:
