Zero Seven Motorsports has confirmed that Adam Monea is in a stable condition under observation in John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle, following his scary incident at Moree’s penultimate round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals on Sunday.
After placing third and sixth respectively in the first two 15-minute back-to-back motos, the 23-year-old Victorian was once again on track for a podium result, setting the fastest lap of the 30-minute race, before crashing hard on the finish line section of the track.
Monea was instantly knocked unconscious in the accident and lay motionless, before being attended to by the Suzuki RACESAFE medical team on site.
The decision was made to transport him via air to Newcastle, where scans would reveal he had suffered a concussion, no less than nine broken ribs (front and back), a broken scapula (shoulder blade) and minor internal bleeding caused by his rib injuries.
To help regulate his breathing, doctors decided to place him into an induced coma overnight. He has since awoken and is in intensive care, with his brother and girlfriend by his side.
Monea has been dubbed one of the top ten surprise packs of the 2012 season, having won two races, finished in the top three overall twice and despite Sunday’s incident, currently maintains fifth in the MX2 championship series.
The Monea family and Zero Seven Motorsports team expressed gratitude for the immense support. Well wishes, can do so via the Zero Seven Motorsports Facebook page www.facebook.com/07motorsports.
