The penultimate Red Bull X-Fighters showdown prior to the Sydney final is about to take flight, with two of the sport’s most recognised faces performing opening jumps in front of one of Germany’s most picturesque monuments.
King Ludwig II’s fairy-tale Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps was the backdrop for a spectacular series of preview jumps by Eigo Sato and Matt Rebeaud.
“It looks just like a postcard,” laughed Rebeaud, a Swiss native who was in his element jumping in the German Alps when he took a look at the pictures of his jumps in front of the famous Castle.
Munich’s Olympic Stadium will host round five of the freestyle motocross World Tour, where the battle will reach new heights as riders aim to halt the run of New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood, the current leader.
The venue that hosted the Olympic Games exactly 40 years ago has been transformed to feature a daunting 9 metal ramps and a number of challenging dirt hits.
Sherwood leads the way with a commanding lead of 80 points over Javier Villegas, amplified by his recent win in Madrid.
Should Sherwood continue his winning run or simply score a podium, he will be on track to seal his first-ever Red Bull X-Fighters title when the tour concludes at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island on October 6.
This weekend will also be a crucial event for riders wishing to advance to the final round for a chance to jump off in front of 11,000 screaming Sydney fans, including Aussies Blake Williams and Rob Adelberg.
Ticket packages start at $69.00 (plus booking fee) including ferry transfers, for a full range of ticket options visit www.ticketek.com.au/xfighters.
