Sources in the United States are reporting that South Australian Brett Metcalfe has been injured while practicing at Glen Helen in California.

The Yoshimura Suzuki rider has a suspected broken wrist and leg, according the MotoOnline.com.au’s US test rider David Pingree.

Early reports suggest that Metcalfe ran out of fuel in a rhythm section, but details at this stage are scarce regarding the incident.

If confirmed, the injury comes as a severe blow to Metcalfe, who had been await the outdoors all season long in a bid to make a real impact on the 2012 season.

Metcalfe finished eighth in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, series earlier this year and currently sits fifth in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series after five rounds.

Update:
Brett Metcalfe has confirmed on Twitter that he has been injured as follows… Rough day practicing, ran out of gas last lap of moto on a rhythm section. Ejected over front. Thank you for all the kind messages I received! As of now, had a dislocated wrist and broken tibia. Both require surgery 9.00am tomorrow. Spirits are still high.
