A battle is brewing between GEICO Honda stablemates Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, as they battle to rise to the top in the ultra competitive 250 Class.
Tomac and Barcia, both current Lites AMA Supercross champions on their respective coasts, have held control of the top step of the podium for the last three rounds to date.
Barcia has entered the 2012 season with a seemingly new-found style and ability to stay calm and be consistent, which is showing in his results so far, as he sits just seven points behind series leader Blake Baggett.
“It a good feeling to cut into that lead every week,” Barcia said. “I definitely want that red plate and that championship at the end of the season.”
At High Point’s round four of the outdoor series over the weekend, the duo again battled it out for the overall. Tomac proved stronger on the day, taking home his second overall victory of the season, moving himself within 11 points of the series lead.
“We’re inching closer to the lead,” Tomac remarked. “It’s good to have a teammate there battling with me too. I think we’re really helping each other out in that way.”
Tomac, Barcia and the rest of the 250 Class will visit Budds Creek next for round five of the series on 16 June.
