Yamaha Junior Racing Queensland young gun Wilson Todd put the pro paddock on notice that he’s a rising star with a convincing performance in the 85cc class during last weekend’s Wonthaggi round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.
Todd stood up to the challenge of racing on the big stage, travelling over 45 hours from Cairns with his dad to race ahead of Australia’s top professional teams.
Atherton-based Todd won the junior 85cc class with three race wins and a third in the four events raced. He also claimed a respectable ninth overall on his YZ125 in the Rookie Lites class.
“I am feeling pretty flat and sore now,” Todd said on Sunday. “I did six races yesterday, another two today and I pushed hard every lap so I am looking forward to a good sleep tonight.
“It was cool to race at an event like this, so thanks to WEM for allowing juniors to race here and also thanks to my Dad and the GYTR Yamaha team for their assistance over the weekend. It was great to be a part of it.”
The Rookies Cup class was won by Honda rider Nick Scott, with Todd’s teammate Joel Dinsdale finishing second.
