Lunchtime update from MotoOnline.com.au at Coonabarabran MX Nationals round.
Campbell Mining Services Honda privateer Jake Moss has pulled off a stunning double-moto victory in the back-to-back races to commence Coonabarabran’s second round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.
The MX1 and MX2 categories have contested their initial motos for the round before the current lunch break, with Moss winning both 15-minute motos in the premier class.
Moto one saw Moss lead from the outset before being pressured by Billy Mackenzie (Monster Energy Kawasaki), who stalled in the closing laps. That left Brad Anderson (Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing) to give chase, finishing second ahead of a fast-finishing Lawson Bopping (CDR Yamaha).
Behind Bopping was teammate Josh Coppins and Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Cody Cooper.
The second moto was again Moss who led from flag to flag, this time beating out Jay Marmont (Monster Energy Kawasaki), who himself held off former teammate Coppins. Tye Simmonds (Simmonds Racing/Red Bull Honda) was fourth, with Cooper again completing the top five.
Mackenzie crashed out of second place in spectacular fashion mid-moto, causing himself a DNF. Anderson was also one to experience problems late in the race. Meanwhile, Bopping was plagued by a bad start, as was Cooper’s teammate Todd Waters.
In the opening MX2 motos it was Luke Styke who dominated for Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing with two wins. He won moto one ahead of Kade Mosig (Monster Energy Kawasaki), Errol Willis (Raceline Pirelli Suzuki), Ryan Marmont (JDR/KTM) and Kirk Gibbs (Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing).
The second moto was again all Styke, this time trailed by Cheyne Boyd (DPH Motorsport Honda), Kiwi Scott Columb (Motul Pirelli Suzuki), Gibbs and Mosig. Willis crossed the line in a consistent sixth.
MXD contenders are scheduled to host their opening motos following the lunch break. Stay tuned for a full report this afternoon when we have complete results and the final motos take place.
