Early Monster Energy MX Nationals MX2 series leader Kirk Gibbs will have the benefit of added strength when the championship continues this weekend at Coonabarabran in New South Wales.
The Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing rider had to endure plenty of discomfort on his way to victory last round as he was dealing with a hand injury that required ongoing medical attention throughout the event.
The two-week break has allowed more recovery time for Gibbs and he heads into the Coonabarabran event with some more ride time under his belt and his hand in better shape.
“While it’s still not 100 percent and I’ve had to manage it between the rounds, I was at least able to get some bike time in and resume my full off bike training again,” Gibbs commented.
“I was able to be consistent at the opening round and I think that is going to be the key to winning this championship with so many capable of winning races.”
Teammate Luke Styke made it a Serco Yamaha 1-3 finish at the season opener a fortnight ago, making for a promising season ahead of the Queensland-based operation.
