Round one of the 2012 New South Wales State Motocross titles held at Moree over the weekend saw a strong showing of national contenders lining up to race in the lead-up to round two of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.
Riders such as Jay Marmont, Todd Waters, Jake Moss, Tye Simmonds, Craig Anderson, Kade Mosig and Errol Willis showed up to keep their racecraft sharp in preparation for the Coonabarabran round being held on 14-15 April.
In the Open class it was Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Waters who took top honours over four-time national champion Marmont, with Moss rounding out the top three overall.
Waters won via consistency and a final moto victory, picking up 3-2-1 results for the round. Moss was the winner of moto two, while Simmonds rebounded from a tough start to the MX Nationals with a win in moto one and a second in the final moto.
Those results handed Simmonds fourth overall for the round after he crashed in moto two, while Anderson completed the top five for the round.
It was Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Mosig who finished on top in the Lites class, with tough competitors Joel Milsevic and Wilson taking second and third positions.
Mosig won moto one, Wilson moto two and 16-year-old KTM 250 SX two-stroke rider Milsevic the third moto in an impressive performance. Under 19s national champion Willis was fourth overall.
The hotly-contested Under 19s division ended up with a tie in points between Milesevic and Kale Makeham, in the end a count back gave Milesevic the win. Behind Milesevic and Makeham was Wilson in third.
Round two of the 2012 NSW State titles will take place at Lake Macquarie on 9-11 June.
