DPH Motorsport Honda’s Cheyne Boyd admits that he’s not happy with his eighth place MX2 finish at round one of the Monster Energy MX Nationals in Conondale, QLD.

After qualifying third behind Kirk Gibbs and Ford Dale, Boyd was unable to put together motos all day and says he found it difficult to catch the leaders after suffering from bad starts.

Boyd will be looking to improve drastically on his round one finish, aiming to take MX2 moto wins before the season end.

“Overall not happy with the end result and know that we have moto win’s to come,” said Boyd. “Everything has been going so well in the lead up to round one and I’m really disappointed with the end result.

“All three motos I didn’t get great starts and would get caught up with other riders mid pack. In moto two crashing with another rider in the first turn and spinning out around lap six in moto three.

“I found it hard to bridge the gap to the leaders when getting such bad starts and on a track that fast and dusty. There are some things we need to work on before round two with the bike and also I need to work on with my riding.

“The team has worked so hard the last month and would love to reward them with moto wins and I know I can do that.”

Despite his troubles, Boyd remains confident that the DPH team will be competitive all season long.

“There were some good points over the weekend,” he reflected. “I think we have a good program going with DPH Motorsport Honda Racing and now will work even harder to rebound from such a bad weekend.

“We know what we need to do and what we need to work on to get the result we know we can get. We would like to thank everyone for there support already and look forward to round two.”

Boyd will regroup and return for round two at Goanna Tracks, Coonabarabran, NSW, 14-15 April.
