As the 2012 AMA Supercross series heads to Toronto this weekend, it is Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto who holds a commanding lead over the injury plagued 450 field.
After coming off another win in Indianapolis last weekend, Villopoto holds a 54-point lead over Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey in second who is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury.
Third in points JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha’s James Stewart is also on the sidelines and has not yet confirmed whether he will race in Toronto.
Australian Brett Metcalfe who took a solid fourth in Indianapolis and will carry that momentum into Toronto, with some front-runners out of contention this could be Metcalfe’s time to shine.
Not to mention Justin Brayton and Davi Millsaps who also have shown flashes of brilliance this season.
In the East Coast Lites class, GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia holds down a 22-point lead, over second place Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Darryn Durham.
Barcia has won a four from five main events so far, with Blake Wharton being the upset last weekend, taking the win on his Rockstar Suzuki.
This may be all Wharton needed to get on a roll and put a stop to the Barcia freight train, but keen an eye on Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen as he will be looking for redemption after falling while leading the main event in Indianapolis.
