Huntingdale’s Louis Calvin is leading the WA State Motocross Championship by a decent margin, but the 19 year old knows all too well when the National Championship comes to town it’s time to step it up.

AJS Motocross Club is set to host round six of the National Championship at Wanneroo on Sunday 21 June, where Louis will enter the Pro Open class on board the KTM 450 SX-F through KTM dealership, Mandurah City.

Already having a taste of the challengers competition, at round three of the WA State Championship held at Wanneroo on June 7, Louis feels well prepared for the battle ahead.

“I raced against top riders like Jay Marmont and Craig Anderson at round three of the WA State Championship, and made the podium in second behind Jay, said Louis.  “Jay will definitely be the rider to beat because he has had a lot of experience on the WA soil following all the years he rode for KTM and travelled over here, but I’m confident on the sands of Wanneroo, and this should work in my favour against most of the East Coast riders.”

Darrin Gaske, dealer principal at Mandurah City KTM couldn’t agree more.  “Louis is definitely a capable rider, and his set up on the KTM 450 SX-F plus his natural talent will work in his favour on the punishing Wanneroo sands,” said Darrin.

Another favourite confirmed to compete on WA sands is 17 year old Tye Simmonds, who recently won the Tumbulgum Natural Terrain Motocross at Byford, and the All Stars Shoot Out at Manjimup.

Simmonds from Bourke in NSW rides with Motorex KTM on the KTM 250 SX-F in the Pro Lites class, and currently sits third in the Pro Lites Championship behind Matt Moss who leads, and Luke George in second.

Simmonds has also been racing on a state level leading up to the National Championship, and recently took four wins from four starts at round two of the NSW State Motocross Championship held at Moree on June 7.

Joining Simmonds in an attempt to battle with Matt Moss and Luke George in the Pro Lites class is his Motorex KTM team mate, Kade Mosig, who made a return to the National Championship at round five in Adelaide after been out with injury for three months.  Final team member, Jason Reed, younger cousin of 08 AMA Supercross Champion, Chad Reed.  Jason will ride the KTM 250 SX-F in the Under 19s class.

The sixth round of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship will be held at AJS Motocross Club on 21 June.  AJS Motocross club is located north of Perth on Wattle Avenue East.  Tickets available at the gate.
