MotoOnline.com.au puts POD’s brand new K300 Knee Braces to the test.

POD MX released a cheaper version of its quality K-series Knee Brace earlier this year, the K300. While it may be more affordable than the proven K700 (which is already great value), don’t be fooled by the lower price tag – this brace is for real!

Utilizing an injection moulded glass-reinforced nylon frame construction, the POD MX K300 offers the same superior support, comfort and function as the K700 at an affordable price according to the company.

A Self-Tracking Patella guard is designed to stay positioned in front of your knee and transfers impacts throughout the brace and away from the knee itself.

Inspired by the human body, the patented Human Motion Hinge uses shock-absorbing ligaments engineered from advanced materials to provide natural triaxial knee motion combined with ultimate support.

Interior strap loops capture your leg to resist rotational forces and brace migration. Antibacterial moisture wicking frame liners, condyle pads and strap pads keep you cool and comfortable. All of those liners and pads can be removed for cleaning purposes and there are a selection of adjustable pad thicknesses and sizes to ensure comfort and maximize safety.

Those are the tech specs direct from POD, which result in a hugely popular and safe style of brace that is worn by many top pros around the world including team athletes Tye Simmonds, Lawson Bopping, Todd Waters, Luke Arbon, Craig Anderson, Brad Anderson, Jake Emanuelli, Justin Barcia, Will Hahn, Stefan Merriman, Cam Sinclair, Matt Schubring and more.

While many of those pros wear the K700, a lot of the younger riders have also tried and worn the K300 simply because it looks trick in white. Personally, I have both and notice very minimal difference between them despite the $180.00 difference in price per brace.

That difference in dollar is essentially down to the K300 featuring an injection moulded glass-reinforced nylon frame (635 grams) construction, rather than the lighter low-profile carbon composite frame (585 grams) featured on the K700. The K300s are a little thicker, but certainly not bulky at all.

Apart from that, they are technically very similar. Four adjustable straps work a treat when tightening around your leg, each numbered to indicate what one you do up in what order. Elastic on the lowest strap allows for a touch of flexibility in that area so it moulds around your calf.

Since there are a variety of sizes available off the shelf and ready to wear, POD MX highly recommends that the sizing and fitting process is carried out by a trained staff member at an authorised trained POD MX dealer before you purchase the product.

We’re big fans of POD here at MotoOnline and although I have both the K700 along with the K300, I’ll certainly be mixing it up over the coming months and continuing to wear both before I decide what ones I ultimately like more. That has to speak volumes about just how well POD has managed to develop a more affordable version for the masses.
