Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs believes on the podium is where he belongs in Monster Energy Super X after finally breaking through with a third place finish in the Lites at Ipswich.
Gibbs rounded out the championship in 10th place, largely due to entering the series with little preparation due to a broken collarbone sustained just three weeks prior to round one.
Saving his best for last, the current outdoor number two made the most of the traditional 15-lap main event in Queensland and met his expectations.
“Tonight was a much better result and something that I should be capable of at every round,” Gibbs explained. “I was able to get into the race, work my way forward and end up on the podium which is where I belong.”
“It’s been a while since I have been up here before, so it all feels new and exciting.”
Gibbs is expected to return with Yamaha for the 2012 season.
