Monster Energy Kawasaki team manager Troy Carroll isn’t ruling out the possibility of having an American rider join the team for the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship.
The team won last year’s Super X title with Josh Hansen, however the team has remained tight-lipped regarding a second Pro Open rider alongside Billy Mackenzie for 2011.
“We should know more next week after the Monster Energy Cup,” Carroll revealed to MotoOnline.com.au. “We are still working on it at this point.”
With the season commencing at Melbourne Knights Stadium on 22 October, Carroll said that testing for Mackenzie and Pro Lites rider Dean Ferris has been going to plan during the pre-season.
“We’re quite happy with how everything has been going,” Carroll added. “Billy loves the new KX450F and Pro Circuit has been developing everything with us. It’s just a matter of time now.
“Dean has been going good on the Lites bike, it was definitely a good decision for him to go back to the Lites class for supercross.”
Potential riders who could easily make the transition to Australia in time for Super X with little local testing include Hansen, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki regular Broc Tickle, or even Kiwi Ben Townley, who will ride a PC bike at the Monster Energy Cup.
The top riders tipped to join Monster Energy Kawasaki at the 11th hour on a Pro Circuit-equipped Kawasaki include Hansen, Broc Tickle and Ben Townley – all who are riding at this weekend’s Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas.
