JDR Motorex KTM’s Matt Moss and Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs are both preparing to battle it out for the 2011 Pro Lites number one plate this weekend as the final round of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals gets underway at Coolum, QLD.
Moss currently leads the standings, holding a 33 point buffer over Gibbs, however with four motos left to run and 100 points up for grabs, both riders know the race for the title is far from over.
Moss says the key to taking his second Pro Lites title outdoors will be to just concentrate on good starts and four solid rides.
“I know what I need to do, I just need to get out of that gate and I can get the job done,” Moss said.
“I’m looking forward to Coolum, I usually go good there and it’s a track I really like.”
Gibbs, who at one stage this season trailed the lead by as much as 80 points, will look to take a similar approach, knowing all he can do is focus on winning every race and taking a maximum point haul.
“My goal is nothing more than to win the round. There is no point working out points and positions so it’s just win the day, get as many points and race wins that I can and see how we end up when it’s finished,” Gibbs commented.
“I like Coolum as it’s a great track to ride and being close to the Serco team base, it’s always good to do well there.”
Like their Pro Open counterparts, the two championship contenders will also have to contend with a gaggle of other Lites competitors keen to prove their worth in the last outdoor race of the year, as Coolum promises to deliver another exciting battle right to the wire.
