GYTR Rockstar Yamaha’s Luke Arbon has congratulated main rival, Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s Errol Willis, after Willis sealed the Under 19’s Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals title with a round to go on the weekend at Moree.
Arbon showed strong form at Moree, as he has all year long, but one bad moto cost him vital points on the day, a story that seems all to familiar for the young Yamaha pilot.
Arbon rode to 2-3-5 finishes in the opening three motos, but a first turn pile up left him well down the field in moto four and desperate for points.
After charging hard through the field, Arbon was able to climb his way back to 11th, securing enough points for third overall on the day, but not enough to keep his championship hopes alive.
“First of all, I would like to congratulate Errol on his win this year. He rode well all year and deserved to win,” Arbon graciously commented.
“But the Moree round was probably a good summary of how my championship has been, plenty of good races but one bad one per round that proved costly when your main rival is so consistent.”
“You simply can’t do that and expect to win a professional championship,” Arbon reflected.
Arbon will now look to round out the series with a solid result at Coolum to secure second place and hopefully gain some race wins.
