Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs says that his plan heading into Coolum’s MX Nationals season finale is to win the round, requiring a lot of things to go his way if he’s to clinch the Pro Lites title.
With a win at Moree last weekend, Gibbs has closed to within 33 points of Pro Lites championship leader Matt Moss, giving him a mathematical chance at the title with one round remaining.
Gibbs entered the Moree event 58 points behind Moss, taking his second round win of the year with 3-1-2-2 results in the four motos.
“My goal was to win the round and do the best I could, so I’m happy to have done that today,” Gibbs said. “In the process I was also able to peg back some points on Matt.
“My bike was great today and on a track like this which can be hard to pass, you have to make the most of your opportunities and my Serco Yamaha worked well in the ruts and also on the hard pack.”
The round win for Gibbs now makes for an exciting finish to the championship where it will come down to the final round this weekend in Coolum to determine a winner.
“My plan for the week doesn’t change. I can only win the round and whatever happens after that is a bonus,” Gibbs concluded.
