Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dean Ferris has spoken to MotoOnline.com.au about the crash that effectively cost him the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals title.

Ferris, 21, has been leading the series since the mid-point and was reaching his peak form in recent rounds, looking to trade consistency for moto victories in a bid to clinch the crown.

His season turned pear-shaped yesterday afternoon in Moree’s penultimate round however, a pair of crashes in moto three ruling him out of the round.

Ferris was immediately attended to by Suzuki RACESAFE after his second mishap, a severe knock to the chest and a painful thumb injury resulting in the end of his round.

“I have a really sore thumb and hand, so I’ll be getting that checked out tomorrow,” Ferris told MotoOnline.com.au this morning. “I washed the front coming into the turn and sort of body slammed the ground.”

The disappointment is huge for Ferris and the Monster Energy Kawasaki team, essentially dashing his title hopes after entering the round with a 14-point advantage.

“It’s disappointing, but there’s still a slim chance for a podium overall if I can ride this weekend,” he continued. “We should find out about my thumb tomorrow, see whether it’s going to be okay or what the story is.

“It’s going to be tough, my thumb’s sore, and I’d have to be in pretty good shape to go fast around that track. I’ll see what the doctors say and see how bad it really is once the swelling goes down.”

Ferris is now 40 points in arrears of series leader Josh Coppins, sitting third overall ahead of Coolum’s season finale.
