The combination of delayed television coverage and decreased ticket prices will form part of a strategic attempt by Global Action Sports to raise the live crowds at Australian Supercross events this season.

MotoOnline.com.au yesterday gave fans a first look at the calendar and other details of the revamped 2011 Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, the series spanning five rounds in its fourth year of operation.

Since Super X was launched in 2008 there has been live television, or at least same day coverage, however this year will see television broadcasts delayed by a week following each round.

A GAS representative has confirmed to MotoOnline.com.au that this has been done in a bid to boost live audiences at the stadiums, along with an all-new ticket pricing scheme.

Last season’s Super X series was largely spoiled by rainy conditions at many rounds, which in turn saw events struggling to meet expectations when it came to audience figures.

GAS managing director Michael Porra has confirmed that ticket prices will be reduced for this season in cooperation with Monster Energy and Motorcycling Australia, which is another direct strategy to try and fill stadiums.

While ticket prices are yet to be announced by GAS for the season ahead, which starts in Melbourne on 22 October, Porra said that GAS can “offer far greater value to fans from 2011, with an all new and more affordable ticket price structure”.

It’s also expected that the series’ switch to regional-based venues including events in the Hunter Valley and Ipswich, will increase interest from the local motorsport enthusiasts.

Stay tuned for more information to come over the following weeks.
