Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Cheyne Boyd saw his hopes of a top five finish dashed on Sunday with a crushing crash in the final Rockstar Energy MX Nationals moto at Coonabarabran on Sunday.
Boyd, who won a round of the Victorian state titles a week prior, endured mixed results, fourth in the first two races and sixth in race three before a massive crash while sitting fifth in the final race saw him finish 16th.
“It was a tough day,” Boyd admitted. “I had some good results but crashing in the last race really cost me. It was a bit of a freak off. I had the sun in my eyes and I ended up over the bars and headfirst into the ground.
“I got back on and rode around until my vision settled, then started trying to reel a few in.”
Despite his crash that forced him to score seventh overall, Boyd is taking some positives from the round.
“My starts were good today. I holeshot the first race and I felt like I was running with the top pack in the first two races,” he added.
Boyd dropped one position in the championship chase on Sunday, now fifth behind round six winner Jay Marmont.
