Campbelltown-based newspaper Macarthur Chronicle is reporting that the Australian Supercross Championship could be headed to Campbelltown Stadium this season.

Speculation has been mounting in recent months that the Super X series will be regional-based in 2011, however the newspaper report is the first real indication of where the series could be headed at the end of the year.

The paper is reporting that the series will head to Campbelltown in November as a replacement to the previous Sydney round of the series that was held at Parramatta Stadium.

According to the paper, Campbelltown Mayor Paul Lake said that he’d be all for the Super X event if it does indeed head to the Western suburbs.

“It would be an excellent outcome for Campbelltown to have such a high-profile event in our growing region,” Lake told the Chronicle. “We have the facilities in Campbelltown to cater for such an event with a rail line close by and plenty of free parking for spectators.

“If we held it at Campbelltown Stadium, it would be about utilising the venue during the rugby league off-season in the summer months.”

The MX Nationals returned to the Macarthur region at Appin earlier this year with great interest from the locals, and Macarthur Motorcycle Club secretary Peter Dow told the Chronicle that he hoped for a long-term event in Campbelltown.

“I think these kind of one-off events are a big novelty for people in the suburbs and will attract a lot of people keen to have a look if it comes to Campbelltown,” Dow reportedly said.

“It’s run by the same people who ran the national motocross championships that we hosted at Appin earlier this year.”

The paper reported that staff from Global Action Sports were unable to be contacted at the time of printing the story, believed to be in the U.S. for the launch of Nitro Circus Live in Las Vegas.

Recent rumours have also had the Super X series returning to Wollongong as part of what is expected to be a minimum of a five-round series.
