Current MX1 series leader, Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clement Desalle, had a disappointing day at the GP of France, round five of the MX1 World FIM Championship.
After taking pole on qualifying, Desalle went down in the second corner after hitting the rear wheel of Red Bull Teka KTM’s Max Nagl.
Remounting last, after another fall later in the race, Desalle was able to push through the pack to take 11th place for the moto.
“Max Nagl cut the line really early and I hit his wheel and crashed. I had to roll the bike back down the hill and was totally last. It was really difficult because in those situations you have to keep a bit calm, even when the rest of the riders are getting away,” Desalle reflected.
“I fought as hard as I could but I made another mistake and landed in all the mud. After that I focused on completing the race.”
Race two saw a more positive outcome, with the Belgian dominating the second moto, and in the process recovering to grab the last overall podium position for the round.
“I had good speed here and at least was able to show that in the second moto,” said Desalle.
“We have done five races now and I will keep on doing the best I can. I lost some points today but I’m happier for the second moto performance.”
Desalle heads into round six of the series in Portugal this weekend with a six point lead over Red Bull Teka KTM’s Antonio Cairoli.
