JDR Motorex KTM’s Josh Cachia overcame injury and the treacherous Toowoomba conditions to take third overall at round five of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals.
After a practice crash before round four of the series left with him with a fractured Metacarpal in his left hand, Cachia has had to dig deep and push through the pain barrier in at the past two rounds in order to keep his first Pro Lites season intact.
“My hand has been bothering me quite a bit for the past couple of rounds, but this week I really think I had the speed to win overall,” Cachia reflected.
After putting in a dominant performance to take the first moto win by over seven seconds, mistakes in the second and third races cost him a chance at the round win. Despite carrying the hand injury, Cachia was not going to use it as an excuse, citing tangles with other riders as the reason for not being able to finish higher on the podium.
“The first race went to plan and I was feeling really comfortable on the bike again, but in races two and three I couldn’t avoid getting tangled up with some other riders,” said Cachia.
“The conditions were really hard. I’m looking forward to a good three weeks off before Coonabarabran. I’ll try to come out swinging there!”
Cachia now sits fifth in the Pro Lites championship after five rounds, 81 points behind team mate and current points leader Matt Moss.
