Round five of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals marked a trying day for GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Under 19s rider Shaun Redhead.
Redhead, who is yet to claim a win in the Under 19s category, carded a third place in race one and a win in the third and final race of the day, to finish third for the day, missing the overall win by only two points due to unfortunate circumstances in race two.
“The second moto probably cost me the overall win,” Redhead said.
“I just tried to keep it on two wheels in the first race and landed in third and I won the last one, but race two proved the difference.”
Race two saw the young Queenslander fall in the first turn, unable to get the bike restarted before being lapped. Despite this he managed to remount and put in an inspired ride in the horrendous conditions, clawing his way back to twelfth position by race end.
“I just couldn’t kick the bike probably because of all the mud. Once I did get it going, I joined back into the race at the back of the lead group and passed most of them before the finish. But, I feel good and happy to move up to third in the standings,” Redhead reflected.
Redhead now trails series leader, Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s Errol Willis, by 100 points heading into round six of the series at Coonabarabran’s Goanna Tracks complex.
