Mexico will host a round of the 2012 FIM Motocross World Championship season, announced by Youthstream and the FIM during the Monster Energy GP of USA at Glen Helen Raceway last weekend.
The event will be promoted by former world champion and AMA star Sebastien Tortelli alongside Nicolás España Serrano, however the location of the event is yet to be released.
“The location of the GP is not yet decided, we have some options in mind and in a few months we will announce the final location of the race,” Tortelli explained.
“It will probably be in the south of Mexico and our goal is to go somewhere safe, with international airports and possibly near the beach.”
Youthstream’s president Giuseppe Luongo announced the agreement they reached to organise a GP in Mexico for 2012.
“We believe it is a very good step for the FIM Motocross World Championship to have a GP in Mexico, as it is a growing market and fits perfectly well in our calendar,” he said.
“There will be three grand prix based in the American continent and it would be possible either to go from USA to Mexico and then Brazil or vice versa.
“It will also be a great opportunity for us to work again with Sebastien Tortelli after so many years and I hope to work together with him with the same success as we had in the past.”
Last year, Tortelli organised the ‘World Celebrities Race’ in Guadalajara, South Mexico, where Stefan Everts raced, and he commented that the event was a great success.
