AARK Racing Triumph’s Christan Casella has won the opening Australian Supersport Championship race of the Symmons Plains round, holding off a determined effort by Yamaha Racing Team runner Kevin Curtain.
The duo had an entertaining dual throughout the 20-lap affair, Casella finally getting the nod by just 1.479 seconds after taking advantage of lapped riders in the closing laps.
In a battle for the final podium honours it was Rick Olson (Yamaha Racing Team) and Mitchell Carr (Carr Brothers Motorsport Triumph), with Olson winning out in that battle.
The race saw a dramatic first lap clash between brothers Nick and Brodie Waters at the hairpin on lap one, the incident forcing Nick out of the race after he went down.
Brodie returned to the track in last position, the Team Suzuki title contender eventually climbing his way back up to a forceful ninth.
Round one winner Aaron Gobert was also a victim of the lap one incident as he worked to avoid the melay, the Gobert Motorsports Yamaha rider working his way from well outside the top 10 into sixth behind WNR Kawasaki’s Glenn Scott at the end of the race.
Both Waters brothers will be back on track for race two this afternoon, scheduled to take place at 1:55pm.
