Current national Supersport title holder Troy Herfoss isn’t ruling out a championship victory in his rookie season for Team Suzuki in the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship ranks for 2011.
With the series’ first practice session commencing tomorrow at Phillip Island alongside the World Superbike season opener, the former American Supermoto standout says he’s aiming for consistency in a bid to launch his title campaign.
“Moving from the Superport to the Superbike was a big unknown for me,” explained 24-year-old Herfoss. “Until I started testing the new bike I’d never actually ridden a 1000.
“I’m feeling comfortable on the bike and it probably fits me better than the 600 did which is a good sign.
“My immediate goals are to finish every race – achieving these I hope to enter the final round with a mathematical chance of fighting for the title. Race wins would be good but consistency is what will build a championship campaign.”
With just two full seasons of road racing behind him, Team Suzuki boss Phil Tainton has already marked Herfoss as a future world champion, and he’ll be Suzuki’s lone full-time factory prospect this season as teammate Josh Waters contests a part-time season in 2011.
