Dual Australian Superbike and Supersport Champion Jamie Stauffer believes 2011 marks his best shot yet at reclaiming the ASBK crown that he last owned in 2007.

The former dirt track standout enjoyed a stranglehold on the country’s premier road racing title during 2006 and 2007 aboard a factory Yamaha YZF-R1 before narrowly missing out on the title to Glenn Allerton in 2008.

Stauffer has a pair of trying seasons in 2009 with Yamaha’s cross-plane R1 and last year aboard a Ducati 1198 twin-cylinder, but being reunited with the traditional four-cylinder with Honda’s CBR1000RR has him in a buoyant mood for this season.

“I think I can [win the title],” Stauffer recently commented. “I’m feeling confident, consistent and fast on the bike, so I really feel like I’ll be in for a good year if the way I felt at the test is anything to judge by.

“We’ve been making some changes, but to be honest after The 6 Hour I feel right at home on the bike.”

Stauffer will partner Victorian-based Wayne Maxwell at Team Honda Racing in Honda Australia’s official return to Australian Superbike competition following a two-year hiatus.
