Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo will be a 'Rockstar' in 2011 after landing a deal with the energy drink giant.

Defending MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has signed a mega-dollar deal with Rockstar Energy Drink for the 2011 season.

Lorenzo becomes Rockstar’s first major MotoGP star to earn sponsorship from the American energy giant, which also was this week revealed as a lead sponsor of the Holden Racing Team V8 Supercars effort.

“It is a pleasure to secure this sponsorship agreement with Rockstar and I believe that this is the start to a very close relationship,” Spanish rider Lorenzo commented.

“I love to be different than the others in my sport and I believe I’ve got that with Rockstar.”

Lorenzo’s deal has ignited an energy war of sorts in MotoGP, Rockstar competing head-on with Valentino Rossi’s Monster Energy sponsorship.

Rossi’s continuing Monster deal was a talking point during the recent Wrooom Ducati team launch, retaining his Monster deal despite Ducati previously forcing Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden to give up lucrative endorsements with Austrian company Red Bull.

Monster, Rockstar and Red Bull are already major competitors in Supercross and Motocross worldwide, the brands fighting hard for supremacy in the market.
